About Us

Our programs cross academic disciplines and encourage students to explore the world in all its complexities.

Who We Are

Home to six major programs, seven minors, three dual degree, and two certificate programs, the department of Integrative Humanities and Social Sciences (IHSS) offers students boundary-crossing curricula of study that integrate the arts, humanities, and social sciences to research, understand, respond to, and thrive in twenty-first century life.

The IHSS community prepares for the future by engaging with an array of cultural and interdisciplinary perspectives on artistic, societal, scientific and technological issues that are often international and historical in scope. We do so through creativity, community-making, and globally-minded critical thinking and analysis.

As adaptable thinkers invested in interdisciplinary perspectives and inquiry, the IHSS community contributes to solutions-oriented scholarship and engagements. In IHSS, students and faculty develop and disseminate widely transferable skills applicable to a range of academic fields and industries, as well as across the public and private sectors.
